Bye Bye Beach, Hello School!

I just had to share this adorable picture of my baby girl, Allie, at the beach this summer. We had a great summer and hope you and your family did too!

Well, I guess she's not so much of a baby anymore since she starts preschool next week. Ok, so it just one day a week for three hours, but still! In recognition of the Back to School season, if you're reading our blog, send us an email at info@sillyandsweet.com with Back to School in the subject line during the month of August and we'll send you a 20% off coupon code!

Good luck to all the kiddos (and parents) going back to school!

Zosephine Diaper Bags Gives Back

Owner of trendy diaper bag company, Maria Winslow, has announced a partnership with the National Domestic Violence Hotline to donate 10% of sales to the national organization. “Business and charity can exist in partnership to make the world a better place,” Winslow said.

Beginning immediately, 10% of sales of Zosephine diaper bags will be donated to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, a non-profit organization that provides crisis intervention, information and referral to victims of domestic violence, perpetrators, friends and families. “We are excited about this partnership with Maria and Zosephine diaper bags,” said Hotline CEO Sheryl Cates. “This project is an excellent example of how business and individuals can make a difference in the fight against domestic violence.”

Winslow, inspired by a friend’s ambitious fundraising in honor of Nancy Cooper, commits money to help victims escape domestic violence. When Nancy was murdered before she could leave her abusive husband, Winslow was shocked and saddened, but didn’t know what to do to help other women in similar situations until she got the inspiration to use her business to help the cause. “It’s still a shock that someone I know was murdered before she could leave an abusive relationship”, says Winslow, “and it made me realize that if it can happen to her, it can happen to anyone. I’m proud to have this opportunity to support the important work of the National Domestic Violence hotline.”

Halloween Already??

I was not expecting Halloween costume catalogs to arrive in my mailbox in early August! But there they are, reminding me that it has already been almost a whole year since my baby trick-or-treated in a Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz costume.

What about two years ago when we weren't going to dress her up because we didn't have plans to go anywhere? But, as luck would have it we decided to go over to a friend's house to help pass out candy at the last minute. She couldn't go without a costume so we had to come up with something quick! We put on her swim suit and cut one of my husband's undershirts into a sash and she was going to be Miss Universe. Well, writing on that shirt with a Sharpie wasn't as easy as you'd think so "Universe" became a much shorter "USA". I can't say it was a costume with a lot of class, but not bad for the last minute!

At Silly & Sweet Baby Boutique we don't have costumes, but we do have adorable personalized Halloween and even Thanksgiving dresses and longalls for babies and toddlers. Our outfits with pumpkin and spider appliques are perfect for photos at the pumpkin patch and our turkey appliques will add that extra special touch to your family's Thanksgiving dinner festivities. These outfits are made to order; please allow 3-6 weeks for delivery. Shop now to avoid rush shipping charges.

No Identity Crisis Here, SHE'S so cute!

I am so excited to add these adorable and unqiue baby hair scarves to our hair and accessories collection!

The Quinna Collection hair scarves are hand-made by friend and fellow mompreneur, Kirsten Hetherly. Her inspiration was the ever so annoying "Isn't HE cute?" comment that so many baby girls get no matter how girly and adorable they (or their outfits) are.

Each of these practical yet stylish scarves features two fashionable fabrics and are fully reversible. No need to worry about clumsy ties, Quinnas are made with a color coordinating soft elastic.

Quinnas are available at Silly & Sweet Baby Boutique in five fabulous reversible patterns.

What's His Name?

My daughter, Allie, is two and a half. For some reason she is obsessed with names. She knows and wants to know everyone's name. She knows all of her friend's names in our playgroup as well as all of their mom's. She knows the names of every single character in her favorite books, TV shows and movies (like Cinderella's mice friends). She asks us what everyone's name is: the cashier at the grocery store, the garbage man, strangers biking in the street - nearly everyone she lays eyes on, including animals. As if that is not enough, now she is also fascinated with who and how people are related. She asks questions like, "What's his dad's name?" (with no dad in sight) or "Who's that boy's grandmother?"

Combine all this talk about names and relationships and I can't believe we weren't expecting her next question. We were driving in the car one day and she saw a dog.
She asked, "What's that doggy's name?"
My husband mustered up every ounce of creativity in his being and said, "German Shephard."
Then she asked, as if it was the most logical follow up question in the world, "What's that doggy's daddy's name?"

Well, in honor of Allie's awesome doggy question, I'd like to feature this adorable Blue Dog Baby Woof Gift Set by Orange Cupcake. Not only is this woof set super cute, but with every purchase, $5.00 is donated to one of these charities of your choice: Teach for America, Charity Water or Donors Choose, connecting donors to classrooms in need. So, not only will your baby or favorite little toddler one be sporting this cool, modern lounge wear, but you'll be giving back too!
